محققان چشم پزشکی دامپزشکی در دانشگاه پنسیلوانیا برای نخستین بار ، با استفاده از تکنیک ژن درمانی ، نقص شبکیه چشم دو گونه مختلف از سگ سانان را درمان کردند .<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

) ، محققین در این پژوهش موفق شدند تا سگهای با سنین پائین را به رغم رخداد این بیماری بصورت جهش ، درمان نمایند . این درحالیست که بر اساس اطلاعات منتشر شده ، درصد موفقیت درمان در سگهایی با سن بیش از 55 هفتگی ، کاهش خواهد یافت .<o:p></o:p>

درمان موفقیت آمیز در این مطالعه ، از طریق الکتروکاردیوگرام و بررسی رفتارهای حیوان در طی روز بررسی شد . درمان ژنی بر روی ژن CNGB3



صورت پذیرفته است . سگها از جمله حیواناتی میباشند که همانند انسان واجد این ژن بوده و درمان توسط آن موفقیت آمیز بوده است . <o:p></o:p>

از جمله اختلالات بسیار نادر چشم میباشد که احتمال رخداد آن در انسان یک نفر از 50000 نفر میباشد . این بیماری به صورت اولیه ، شبکیه چشم را تحت تاثیر قرار می دهد و از جمله عوامل میتعد کننده سایر ضایعات شبکیه چشم میباشد . <o:p></o:p>
