ديابت در گربه*ها

در گربه*ها ديابت مليتوس مي*تواند بسيار مهلك و كشنده باشد. گر چه از گذشته در مورد اثر جيره غذايي خشك يا مرطوب روي ديابت گربه*ها بحث وجود داشته، اما هنوز علل ديابت در گربه*ها مشخص نشده است. در يك مطالعه جديد كه در كلمبيا انجام شده است دانشمندان اظهار داشتند كه اضافه وزن، بيشتر از نوع غذا در ديابت گربه*ها مؤثر است.

از آنجاييكه غذاي خشك نسبت به غذاي مرطوب (كنسرو) بيشتر حاوي نشاسته و كربوهيدرات است (40%-30%) بعضي عقيده دارند براي گربه*ها چنين غذاهايي مضر و غيرطبيعي بوده زيرا گربه از لحاظ فيزيولوژيك و آناتومي بدن، يك گوشتخوار محسوب مي*شود. بر عكس غذاهاي مرطوب بيشتر حاوي پروتئين بوده و به غذاي گوشتخواران شباهت زيادتري دارند.

در اين مطالعه دو گروه گربه با هم مقايسه شدند: يك گروه گربه*هايي بودند كه در كاليفرنيا با غذاي خشك تغذيه مي*شدند، گروه ديگر گربه*هاي موجود در نيوزلند بودند كه با غذاي كنسروي (مرطوب) تغذيه مي*شدند. پس از مقايسة تست تحمل گلوكز در هر دو گروه تفاوت قابل ملاحظه*اي بين دو نوع جيره غذايي مشاهده نشد. سپس مشخص شد مقدار غذايي كه در اختيار گربه*ها قرار مي*گيرد نسبت به نوع غذا، در افزايش ريسك ابتلا به ديابت مؤثرتر است. آنها بيان كردند گربه*هايي كه از غذاي كنسروي (مرطوب) استفاده مي*كنند نسبت به آنهايي كه از غذاي خشك استفاده مي*كنند استعداد كمتري براي چاق شدن دارند. 40% از كل گربه*هاي ميانسال داراي اضافه وزن هستند (در حالت عادي وزن گربه*هاي نر بين و گربه*هاي ماده بين مي*باشد). گربه*هايي كه اضافه وزن دارند علاوه بر استعداد براي ابتلا به ديابت، مستعد بيماري*هاي پوستي، دهاني و برخي سرطان*ها نيز مي*باشند. در ضمن گربه*هايي كه عقيم مي*شوند تمايل بيشتري به غذا خوردن پيدا مي*كنند.
