تلقیح مصنوعی برای پرورش دهندگان گاو شیری مزایای بسیاری دارد اما مشکلات مربوط به تشخیص فحلی، کاربرد آن را در گاوهای گوشتی محدود می*کند.

برخی از مزایای تلقیح مصنوعی نسبت به جفتگیری گاو نر در زیر توضیح داده شده:

1- بهره ژنتیکی:

بهره ژنتیکی را می*توان مزیت اصلی تلقیح مصنوعی دانست که همراه با کنترل بیماریها، یکی از مهمترین علتهای گسترش تلقیح مصنوعی به شمار می*رود. با استفاده از این تکنیک می*توان ژنهای برتر را در سطح گسترده*ای در جمعیت گاوها منتشر کرد. هر گاودار می*تواند از ژنهای گاوهای نری استفاده کند که به دنبال ارزیابی از یک جمعیت بزرگ برگزیده شده است. بنابرین، هزینه*های چنین برنامه*های ارزیابی و گزینش که برای یک دامدار بسیار گران تمام می*شود بین استفاده کنندگان خدمات تلقیح مصنوعی تقسیم خواهد شد.

2- صرفه جویی:

حتی در شرایطی که گاودار با استفاده از گاوهای نر برتر موجود توجهی به پتانسیل بهره ژنتیکی نداشته باشد ممکن است این نکته را دریابد که مزایای اقتصادی، استفاده از خدمات تلقیح مصنوعی را برای او با ارزش سازد

ممکن است خرید و نگهداری گاو نر گران تمام شود و از سویی گاو نر خریداری شده رضایتبخش نباشد. از سویی دیگر ناباروری و کم*باروری گاو نر نیز ممکن است وجود داشته باشد. گاودار ناچار است هزینه*ای را صرف خریداری و نگهداری گاو نر بپردازد اما با انجام تلقیح مصنوعی می*تواند این هزینه*ها را در گاوهای ماده خود صرف کند.

3- کنترل بیماری*ها:

بیماری*های دستگاه تناسلی نه تنها باعث ناباروری و کم*باروری می*شوند، بلکه جفتگیری گاو نر با گاو ماده سبب آلودگی ماده گاوها نیز می*شود. برای نمونه تریکوموناز و کامپیلوباکتریوز از بیماریهایی هستند که از این راه گسترش می*یابند.

بیماری بروسلوز اگرچه یک بیماری تناسلی نیست اما به دلیل تماس جنسی گاو نر با گاو ماده منتشر می*شود. در انگلستان با استفاده از تلقیح مصنوعی بیماری تریکوموناز کنترل شده*است.

در صورتی که گاو نر به صورت اشتراکی استفاده شود و یا از دیگر گاودارها اجاره شود خطر گسترش بیماریها افزایش می*یابد که با تلقیح مصنوعی می*توان این بیماریها را کنترل کرد.

4- ایمنی:

برخی عقیده دارند که جنبه*های ایمنی تلقیح مصنوعی یکی از دلایل ایجاد خدمات تلقیح مصنوعی است. هر گاو نر می*تواند خطرناک باشد اما از این نظر بین نژادهای مختلف تفاوتهایی دیده می*شود. برای نمونه احتمال حمله از سوی یک گاو نر هرفورد به مراتب کمتر از یک گاو نر نژاد فریژن یا هلشتاین است. صرفنظر از ظاهر آرام یک گاو نر احتمال بروز حمله از سوی آن همواره وجود دارد.

5- انعطاف پذیری:

یک گاودار شاید مایل نباشد که همه گوساله*هایش از یک گاوهای نر با ویژگی*های مشابه، یا حتی از یک نژاد بوجود آیند. گاهی گاودار مایل است که بهترین تولید را داشته باشد و با استفاده از گاوهای نر مرغوب اشکالات گاوهای ماده خود را در گوساله*های بعدی برطرف سازد. روشن است گاودار نمی*تواند برای رفع نیازهای احتمالی خود تعداد کافی گاو نر نگهداری کند وبه همین دلیل برای حل مشکلات خود می*تواند از تلقیح مصنوعی استفاده کند.

نتیجه گیری:

بی گمان تلقیح مصنوعی موفق*ترین و پر استفاده*ترین تکنیکی است که از پژوهشهای کاربردی در فیزیولوژی تولید مثل نتیجه شده است.

در بریتانیا بروسلوز که زمانی از مهمترین علت سقط جنین بود تقریبا ریشه کن شده است و نخستین سازمان تجارتی تلقیح مصنوعی گاو در دهه*ی 1940 آغاز به کار کرد.

در حالی که تلقیح مصنوعی کمک به بهتر کردن نژادها بود اما در کنترل بیماریهای بویژه Campylobacter fetus و Trichomonas fetus نیز نقش مهمی داشته است.

بطور کلی با تلقیح مصنوعی می*توان موارد زیر را داشت:

· اصلاح ژنتیکی دام

· صرفه جویی (نداشتن هزینه گاو نر)

· جلوگیری از بیماریها مخصوصا بیماریهاس تناسلی

· ایمنی و اطمینان بالا
