ميمونها از ابزار استفاده ميکنند

آنتونيو مورا و فيليس لی، دو تن از پژوهشگران دانشگاه کمبريج انگلستان، در نشريه علمی ساينس (دانش) گزارشی از پژوهشهای خود چاپ کرده اند که نشان می دهد گونه ای از ميمونها که در جنگلهای خشک کاتينگا در شمال شرق برزيل زندگی می کنند و به "ميمون راهب" (کاپوچين) معروفند در کندن زمين برای جستجوی غذا، شکستن دانه ها و سوراخ کردن شاخه های توخالی درختان از سنگ استفاده می کنند.

استفاده ميمونهای راهب از سنگ به عنوان ابزار پيشتر نيز مشاهده شده بود اما اين پژوهش نشان می دهد که اين ميمونها به صورت عادتی دائم از چنين ابزاری استفاده می کنند، نه به صورت اتفاقی.

هرچند، مردمشناسان دانشگاه کمبريج اين نظريه را نيز مطرح کرده اند که استفاده ميمونها از سنگ به عنوان ابزار ممکن است تنها در شرايط اقليمی ويژه، همچون فصلهای خشک طولانی صورت بگيرد که غذا کميابتر می شود.

آنتونيو مورا در گزارش پژوهش خود روی ميمونهای راهب نوشته که از اکتبر سال 2000 تا مارس 2002 اين ميمونها را تحت نظر گرفته و 154 استفاده آنها از سنگ به عنوان ابزار را شاهد بوده است.

کاربرد سنگ به عنوان ابزار پيشتر در ميمونهای بزرگ همچون شامپانزه ها ديده شده بود و دانشمندان همواره در پی اين بوده اند که ارتباطی ميان استفاده نياکان بشر از سنگ و آنچه اين ميمونها انجام می دهند بيابند.

شامپانزه ها می توانند نحوه تراشيدن سنگ و تيز کردن لبه آن را برای استفاده بهتر از آن بياموزند اما قادر به درک اينکه چگونه اين کار را از راه صحيح انجام دهند نيستند در حالی که به نظر دانشمندان، انسانهای اوليه به صورت طبيعی توانايی درک روش صحيح تراش سنگ را داشته اند.
