گسترش: شتر یک کوهانه بومی مناطق شمال آفریقا و خاورمیانه می باشد. و مهاجران اروپایی که به استرالیا می رفتند این جانور را برای حمل بارهای خود با خود به آنجا بردند.

بعد از اینکه ماشین ها جایگزین این جانوران شدند آنها در طبیعت رها شدند و این حیوانات طی چند نسل جمعیت وحشی تشکیل دادند.

غذا: بوته های کم ارتفاع موجود در صحرا

اندازه: 140 تا 170 سانتیمتر

وزن: به 550 تا 650 کیلوگرم می رسد.

ملاحظات:

کوتاه تر از شتر دوکوهانه می باشد. این شترها اهلی هستند و از این حیوان برای حمل بارها در بیابان ها استفاده می شود. زیرا در برابر کم آبی و کمبود غذا مقاومت فراوانی دارد و می تواند چندین روز بدون آب و غذا زنده بمانند.
