آخوندَک یا شُتُرزَنَک را به هر یک از حشرات راسته آخوندک*ها (Mantodea) گویند. این حشره به نامهای فال*بین و قاطرکُش نیز معروف است چون از آب دهان این حشره قاطر مسموم می*شود.

آخوندک حشره*ای است سبزفام، ملخ*وش، باریک و کشیده با پاهای دراز، سر بزرگ و دو جفت بال,که هنگامی که آرام می*ایستد پاهای خود را مانند دو دست به سمت جلو نگه می*دارد و در این حالت از این جهت که انگار که دارد دعا می*خواند، او را در فارسی آخوندک و در بسیاری از زبان*های فرنگی، ‎Mantis، Mantodea یا مانند آن می*خوانند؛ چون که Mantis واژه*ای یونانی به معنای پیغمبر است. برای تأکید بر این معنا حتی در زبان انگلیسی، گاه نام این جانور را با صفت «نیایشگر» هم همراه می*کنند و آن را Praying Mantis می*خوانند. آخوندک بسیار خون*آشام است و حتی به همجنسهای خود هم رحم نمی*کند. این حشره می*تواند مدت درازی را بدون آب و خوراک تاب آورد. آخوندک تنها حشره*ای است که قادر است سر خود را به اطراف بچرخاند. آن*ها بیشتر در لای شاخ و برگ درختان زندگی می*کنند و با خویشتن را به شکل شاخه*ای کوچک مانند کردن، طعمه*های خویش را می*فریبند. هرگاه مگسی به نزدیک این حشره بیاید دستها را به سویش دراز می*کند آن را می*گیرد و سپس آرام آرام به خوردنش مشغول می*شود. آخوندک*ها چون حشره*های زیان*آور برای برزیگری و باغداری را می*شکرند، برای این پیشه*ها نیکو و سودمند هستند. آخوندک دارای ۸۰۰ گونه*است. ۲۰ نوع از آنها در آمریکای شمالی یافت می*شود که همگی بالهایی به رنگ قهوه*ای یا سبز و اندامی حدود ۵ سانتیمتر دارند.
