همانطور که از نام این نژاد بر می آید ، مین کون گربه ای آمریکایی می باشد اگرچه در زمانهای خیلی دور از بریتانیا به آنجا منتقل گشته ، کشوری که امروزه نیز در آن دارای شهرت زیادی می باشد.

کلمه Maine نام ایالتی در آمریکا است ، مکانی که این نژاد اولین بار در آنجا رؤیت شده است.

اولین بار ماری آنتوینِت ((Antoinette گربه های محبوب خود را برای فرار و دوری از انقلاب فرانسه به آمریکا فرستاد و اینگونه بود که مین کون به این قاره راه یافت.

برای اولین بار در سال 1967 در آمریکا و در سال 1980 در اروپا به معرض نمایش درآمد.

خلق و خو:

اگرچه جثه این گربه در مقایسه با سایر نژادها بزرگتر می باشد اما دارای خلق و خویی شیرین ، دوستانه و بازی گوش است که این خصوصیات وی را به حیوان خانگی ایده آلی تبدیل کرده است.

توضیحات:

مین کون دارای جثه ای بزرگ و محکم ، موهای بلند ، صورت کشیده (البته نه به کشیدگی نژاد سیامی (Siamese) ) و پاهای بلند می باشد.

دارای پوشش بلند و متراکم می باشد که در اطراف گردن به حالت یال در آمده است. رنگ مو و چشمها در هر رنگی قابل قبول است
