مشخصات عمومي :

پرندگانی کوچک جثه و اندکی کوچک تر از گنجشک خانگی با دم چنگالی شکل و منقار مخروطی و نسبتاً باریک دمگاه سفید رنگ ، صورت قرمز رنگ ، پس سر سیاه رنگ ، گونه های سفید ،گرده قهوه ای یا خاکستری ، بال های سیاه رنگ با نوار زرد کاملاً مشخص در بال ها ، سینه ای به رنگ نخودی و پا های تیره رنگ هستند.
سهره معمولي در تمام نقاط دنيا يافت ميشود . قدش تا 13 سانتي متر ميرسد . نر و ماده سهره هم رنگ ميباشند دانه و حشره ميخورند .پرنده ای است با بالهای زرد وسیاه، دم سیاه وسفید، صورت سرخ لاکی، وپشت قهوه ای خاکی که در ناحیه دمگاه به سفیدی می گراید. سهره های معمولی بصورت جفتي يا دسته جمعي زندگي ميكنند . هر بار سه تا هفت تخم ميگذارند كه در مدت 14 روز تخم ها به جوجه تبديل ميشود . جوجه سهره دارای سر و پشت برنگ نخودی مايل به خاكستری و بدنی پر از خط و خال قهوه ای رنگ است
سهره طلايي يا معمولي يکي از شايع ترين انواع سهره در سراسر دنيا مي باشد . علاقمندان زيادي در تمام دنيا تمايل به نگهداري از اين پرنده خوش آواز و زيبا دارند .

مشخصات پرنده نر و ماده :

پرنده نر و ماده بسيار شبيه به يکديگر هستند با اين تفاوت که رنگ قرمز صورت در پرنده نر وسعت بيشتري داشته و از لبه عقبي چشم ها نيز فراتر مي رود در حالي که در پرنده ماده رنگ قرمز صورت تا ميانه هاي چشم مي رسد . همچنين به طور کلي منقار پرنده نر نسبت به منقار پرنده ماده بزرگ تر مي باشد.

تغذيه :

خارج از فصل توليد مثل از انواع دانه ها تغذيه مي کند و در فصل توليد مثل علاوه بر دانه ها از حشرات نيز تغذيه مي نمايد . بهترين غذا براي نگهداري اين پرنده در قفس شاه دانه است ولي مي توان جوجه ها را از همان ابتدا به خوردن ارزن يا کتان عادت داد .
