چرا تخم مرغ بيضوي است ؟

مي دانيم که پرندگان روي تخم مي خوابند تا جوجه ها از تخم بيرون بيايند. تخمها بايد به قدري محکم باشند، که وزن پرندهء خوابيده روي تخمها باعث شکستن آنها نشود. به اين جهت شکل تخم مرغ کاملاً حساب شده است، تا بتواند بدون شکسته شدن فشار زيادي را تحمل کند، و به همين دليل محافظ خوبي براي جوجه باشد. سر انجام جوجه با نوک زدن تخم را از داخل مي شکند.

بيشتر تخمها داراي يک سر گرد و يک سر نسبتاً نوک تيز هستند. در نتيجه اگر تخم پرنده اي حرکت کند ، دور قسمت باريکتر دوران مي کند و از لانه بيرون نمي افتد. مخصوصاً وقتي که تخم پرنده در سطح شيبدار قرار گيرد، به جاي پائين رفتن يک مسير منحني طي کرده و متوقف مي شود.

بيشتر پرنده ها نيز لانه اي شبيه کاسه مي سازند. اين لانه مانع از حرکت کردن تخم مي شود. نوک باريکتر تخمها هم در لانه رو به يکديگر قرار گرفته ، و باعث مي شود که پرنده راحتر روي تخمها بخــــوابد و تمام آنها را با بدن خود بپوشاند و گرم نگـــــاه دارد.
