کوالاهاي استراليا در معرض انقراضخبرگزاريآريا - تصور استراليا بدون وجود کوالا مثل تصور سيدني بدون ساختمان اپراياين شهر، غير ممکن است. به گزارش آريا اما اين طور که مسئولان حفظ گونههاي جانوري در جلسه اي که در شهر کانبرا در اين کشور داشتند، انقراضکوالاها واقعيت دارد و هشداري جدي است .
نتيجه تحقيقي که به تازگي انجام شده نشان مي دهد تعداد کوالاها در شش سال گذشته ممکن است به نصف کاهش پيدا کرده باشد.
دليلاين کاهش بيماري، ساخت و ساز بي رويه در زيست گاه هاي اين جانور و تغييراتدر آب و هوا اعلام شده است .بر اساس گزارش بي بي سي تعداد زيادي ازکوالاها به دليل مبتلا شدن به يک بيماري به نام کلاميديا کشته شدهاند.کلاميديا يک بيماري باکتريايي مقاربتي است که به وسيله رابطه جنسي ازيک حيوان به حيوان ديگر منتقل مي شود. خشکسالي هم باعث شده تا از ميزانتوليد خوراک اين پستاندار که برگ اکاليپتوس است، کاسته شود.بيل اليس ازموسسه کوالاي استراليا معتقد است که نگراني از انقراض کوالاها به هيچ وجهبدبينانه نيست.به گفته او در مناطقي از استراليا، به خصوص در ايالتنيوساوث ويلز مواردي وجود داشته که به رغم توجه اهالي، باز هم نسل کوالاهابه صورت محلي منقرض شده است.فعالان حفاظت از گونه هاي جانوري خواسته اندتا کوالا که سمبلي براي کشور استراليا است در فهرست حيوانات در حال انقراضقرار گيرد.اما کميته حيوانات در خطر انقراض که زير نظر دولت استراليافعاليت مي کند اعلام کرده که محبوبيت بسيار زيادي کوالا در کشور استرالياتاثيري بر تصميم اين کميته نخواهد داشت. يک سخنگوي اين کميته گفته است کهاحساسات مبناي تصميم گيري اين کميته نيست و وضعيت کوالاها هم مثل بقيهحيوانات بررسي خواهد شد .
