مشخصات :

اندازه جی جاق 34 سانتی متر است؛ نشانه های تشخیص این پرنده عبارت است از بدن قهوه ای مایل به صورتی ، دم سیاه ، لکه مشخص روی بال ها ، راهراه عرضی آبی و سیاه پوشپرهای بال . پرهای سیاه و سفید تارک خود را به صورت کاکل بلند می کند . چشم هایش آبی کمرنگ است و پروازی سنگین آرام و مستقیم دارد که همراه با تکان های خاص بدن و بال ها همراه است ، اغلب به صورت گله های کوچک و پرسر و صدا دیده می شود .
در پرواز به واسطه پوشش آبی بال ها، لکه سفید روی بال و دم که در تضاد با رنگ شاهپرای بال و دم قرار دارد، به آسانی شناخته می شود.
سبیل سیاه و تارک سیاه یا خط خط سیاه؛ از مشخصات دیگر این پرنده است.
روی تنه صورتی خاکستری با اثری از رنگ قهوه ای، پس گردنش قهوه ای تا تیره، زیر تنه صورتی خاکستری روشن و چانه و زیر دم سفید چرکی است.
پرنده ای پر سر و صدا و خجالتی است.

صدای پرنده:

صدای جی جاق بسیار و اضح و نعره مانند است و به صورت "سه کاآآک-سه کاآآک، skaaak-skaaak " و صدای ضعیف "پی ای- peeay" شنیده می شود.

زیستگاه :

جی جاق پرنده ای ست که به ندرت دور از درخت دیده می شود . معمولا در جنگل های دور دست لانه می سازد .
در جنگل های سوزنی برگ، بلوط یا جنگل های مخلوط بسر می برد.
در سوراخ درختان و لابلای شاخ و برگ درختان حاشیه جنگل ها آشیانه می سازد.

پراکندگی :

جی جاق از جمله پرندگانی ست که در گذشته نچندان دور از پراکندگی فراوانی برخوردار بوده است و اما در حال حاضر اصلاع دقیق و مستندی از وضعیت تعداد و پراکندگی این پرنده بومی ایرانی در دست نیست .
