پانچاکس یک از زیبا ترین ماهیان آکواریومی به حساب می آید که در هر 2 هفته می توان از آن در حدود 100 عدد تخم کشید (البته بستگی به اندازه ماهی ماده دارد .)
وقتی ما به آکواریوم فروشی ها می رویم و این ماهی را مشاهده می کنیم ، چون معمولا در سایزهای کوچک هستد، آنها را نمی پسندیم ، چرا؟
چون این ماهی در سایز کوچک بسیار زشت و دارای تنوع کمتری از رنگ است و مانند ماهی های جوی هستند و از خرید آن صرف نظر می کنیم در صورتی که بعد از یکی دو ماه به بهترین رنگ خود می رسد و به تانک زیبایی عجیبی می بخشد که دارای رنگ هایی نظیر قرمز ، پرتغالی ، سبز ، زرد و... هستند .
دلیل دیگر نخریدن این ماهی ممکن است این باشد که چون این ماهی غذا را فقط از سطح آب می گیرد و اگر غذایی به پایین آب برود ، خوردن آن توسط پانچاکس ها کمی دشوار می شود ، در نتیجه باید از غذا های مناسبی که روی آب شناور می مانند یا غذای زنده مانند : بچه ماهی ها ( بچه گوپی ) و ... استفاده کرد، علت این امر را می توان بر 2 فرض دانست : 1_ غریزه ماهی این اجازه را به ماهی نمی دهد تا غذا ها را از کف آکواریوم بخورد _2_ ساختار دهانی این ماهی است که به صورت فک پاییینی کشیده می باشد ( همانند آروانا ) .
دلیل دیگر برای نخریدن این ماهی زیبا این است که پانچاکس های ماده نیز همانند فایترهای ماده کمیاب هستند و اکثر مغازه ها ، پانچاکس نر دارند ( البته در بعضی از مناطق این مسئله کمی متفاوت است ) .
