بیماری چشم صورتی ، که به التهاب قرنیه ای ملتحمه ای عفونی معروف است، یکی از مهمترین بیماریهای گاوهای پرواری است. این بیماری بسیار واگیراست و باعث التهاب قرنیه و ملتحمه چشم و نیز ایجاد زخمی به صورت یک فرورفتگی در قرنیه می*شود. بیماری چشم صورتی در بهار افزایش می*یابد، در تابستان به حداکثر می*رسد و در زمستان کاهش می*یابد. شدت این بیماری از خفیف تا شدید می*باشد و تقریباً در ۲ درصد موارد باعث کوری خواهد شد.
بیماری چشم صورتی یکی از مهمترین موارد اقتصادی برای تولیدکنندگان است و به خاطر کاهش وزن، کاهش تولید و هزینه*های درمان ناشی از این بیماری سالانه تقریباً ۱۵۰ میلیون دلار خسارت به تولیدکنندگان تحمیل می*شود. حیوانات مبتلا همچنین به طور قابل توجهی در هنگام فروش دچار نزول قیمت می*شوند. در یک مطالعه ۲۰ ساله گوساله*های مبتلا به بیماری چشم صورتی ۶/۱۹ پوند کمتر از گوساله*های سالم وزن*گیری می*کنند. در حالی که مطالعه دیگر نشان داد که کاهش وزن*گیری در گوساله*های مبتلا ۳۶ تا ۴۰ پوند بوده است. علاوه بر این تخمین زده شده است که یک گوساله کور ۶۰ پوند وزن*گیری کمتر از گوساله*های سالم در زمان وزن*گیری خواهد داشت. حیوانات کور از ناحیه دو چشم همچنین در صورتی که قادر نباشند منابع آب و غذا را پیدا کنند، در خطر تلف شدن به خاطر حادثه یا گرسنگی هستند. بیماری چشم صورتی معمولترین بیماری است که تلیسه*ها را در سن پرورش درگیر می*کند، و دومین بیماری بسیار معمول در گوساله*های با پرورش دستی است که پس از سه*هفتگی بروز می*کند.
