زندگی مرموز زنجره ها

صبح یک روز بهاری، یکی از آخرین روزهای اردیبهشت ماه سال گذشته، مردم مناطق شرقی آمریکا پس از بیدار شدن از خواب با صحنه ای شگفت انگیز مواجه شدند. همه جا پُر از حشرات عجیب و غریبی شده بود. این حشرات، تقریباً بر روی تمامی بوته ها و درختان باغچه خانه ها، پیاده روها، پارک ها و باغ ها دیده می شدند. تعداد این حشرات به حدی بود که بعضی از مردم را وحشت زده کرده بود. اما در این صبح بهاری، چه اتفاقی افتاده بود؟ ماجرا مربوط به داستان شگفت انگیز زندگی نوعی زنجره آمریکایی به نام Cicada است. این نوع زنجره، فقط در ایالت های شرقی آمریکا نظیر جورجیا، ایندیانا، کنتاکی، نیویورک و اوهایو یافت می شود. لاروهای این حشرات در مدت ۱۷ سال گذشته در زیر خاک به زندگی مشغول بودند و اینک پس از طی شدن دوران کودکی، به روی زمین آمده بودند تا نوعی دیگر از زندگی را تجربه کنند. نکته جالب و عجیب در زندگی این زنجره ها که طولانی ترین دوران کودکی را مابین حشرات دارند آن است که زندگی طولانی آنها پس از بیرون آمدن از خاک، تنها دو هفته بیشتر طول نمی کشد. اما آنها در همین مدت کوتاه، وظیفه مهمی را به انجام می رسانند و آن تکثیر است. این حشرات کوچک پس از بیرون آمدن از خاک شروع به بالارفتن از بوته ها و درختان می کنند. تعدادشان بسیار زیاد است به طوریکه در هر متر مربع، مابین ۵۰ تا ۱۰۰ حشره به چشم می خورد. چیزی نمی گذرد که زنجره ها بالغ شده و در همین روزهاست که آواز جفت یابی زنجره های نر، سمفونی فرح بخشی را در روزهای زیبای بهاری به راه می اندازد. پس از جفت گیری، زنجره ماده در بالای درخت، تخم گذاری می کند. تعداد این تخم ها به ۶۰۰ عدد هم می رسد. این تخم ها از بالای درخت، بر روی زمین می افتند و در لابه لای سطح خاک، پنهان می شوند. خیلی زود و پیش از اتمام بهار، عمر تمامی زنجره های بالغ به پایان می رسد. اما لاروها پس از بیرون آمدن از تخم، یک زندگی ۱۷ ساله را در زیر خاک، آغاز می کنند. برای تماشای مجدد آنها باید تا سال ۲۰۲۱ منتظر بمانیم. در آن سال، در یک صبح بهاری، بازهم هزاران میلیارد زنجره کوچک دوباره ناگهان از زیر خاک بیرون می آیند تا با آوای دلنشین خود، فضا را سرشار کنند. نوعی دیگر از این نوع زنجره ها نیز هستند که هر ۱۳ سال یکبار ظاهر می شوند. یکی از سؤالات دانشمندان آن است که چرا طول عمر این حشرات بر حسب اعداد اول تنظیم شده است. آیا شما پاسخی برای این مسأله عجیب دارید؟
