چشم شتر مرغ از نظر قرنيه شبیه ترین قرنیه به چشم انسان است و در پيوند قرنيه انسان از قرنيه شتر مرغ استفاده مي شود .
همچنين از تاندوم پاي شتر مرغ براي پيوند به پاي انسان استفاده مي شود و مغز كوچك آن نيز در درمان آلزايمر موثر است .در فرهنگ هاي باستاني، روغن شترمرغ به عنوان يک ماده آرايشي و نيز براي درمان بيماري هاي متفاوت به کار برده مي شد. گفته مي شود کلئوپاترا و ملکه سبا براي حفظ زيبايي خود در آب و هواي گرم و خشک صحرايي، از روغن شترمرغ استفاده مي کردند.مصریان باستان از تخم های این حیوان برای مصارف دارویی استفاده می کردند.یکی از کم چربی ترین و سالم ترین نمونه های گوشت قرمز در دسترس گوشت شتر مرغ است که کلسترول آن از گوشت مرغ هم کمتر است. شترمرغ های بالغ در ناحیه زیر شکم خود دارای لایه ای ضخیم از چربی هستند که نقش سپر حرارتی، محافظ فیزیکی و منبع ذخیره انرژی را برای آنها ایفا می کند. چربی تشکیل دهنده این لایه به علت داشتن خاصیت جذب سریع توسط پوست انسان و نیز افزایش سرعت ترمیم پوست در ترکیب برخی از کرم های آرایشی، شامپوهای گران قیمت و نیز تعدادی از پمادهای سوختگی و دارو به کار می رود و مشتریان خاص خود را در بازارهای جهانی دارا است.
در بعضی از نقاط دنیا، از ژلاتین استخراج شده از استخوان شترمرغ در ساخت جداره کپسول های دارویی استفاده می شود.به گزارش سایت «ehow» روغن شتر مرغ غني از اسيدهاي چرب ضروري مانند امگا۳،۶ و ۹ است.
خواص:
* اسيدهاي چرب ضروري موجود در اين روغن، به حفظ سلامت غشاهاي سلول کمک مي کند.
* امگا ۶ و ۹ موجود درآن، مرطوب کننده و نرم کننده پوست است.
*خط هاي ريز و چين و چروک ها را از بين مي برد.
* امگا۳،۶و۹ موجود در آن از بسته شدن منافذ پوست جلوگيري مي کند.
* روغن شترمرغ سريع جذب پوست مي شود.
* اسيدهاي چرب ضروري در آن براي رشد، تقسيم بندي و بهبود سلول ها لازم است.
* از اين روغن براي برطرف کردن سوختگي، زخم بستر، اگزما، گزيدگي حشرات، جوش ها و خشکي پوست استفاده مي شود.
* روغن شترمرغ، خاصيت ضدالتهابي و ضدقارچي دارد.
* روغن شترمرغ براي توليد محصولات بهداشتي پوست، مو و پمادهاي ضد درد استفاده مي شود.
* براي افزايش رطوبت پوست، قبل از خواب از اين روغن استفاده کنيد.
