هنگام تولد، گوساله ی بالغ دارای 6 تا 8 دندان پیشین است كه در ابتدا تا نیمه بالثه پوشانیده شده اند. لثه ها پس از 12 روز از روی دندانهای پیشین مركزی تحلیل میروند وتا سه هفتگی این روند در طرفین و دندانهای میانی وكناری گسترش می یابد0 اولین نشانه های سایش در سطح فوقانی دندانها در 5/1 ماهگی در دندانهای پیشین مركزی قابل مشاهده است و در 2 ماهگی دردندانهای وسطی ودر5/2 ماهگی دردندانهای جانبی و 3 ماهگی در دندانهای پیشین گوشه ای دیده میشود0

در گاوهای جوان تغییر دندانهای شیری به انواع دائمی با تعویض دندانهای پیشین مركزی در حدود بیست و یك ماهگی شروع شده وبا تعویض دندانهای میانی در سی ماهگی ادامه می یابد دندانهای جانبی در سی و نه ماهگی و دندانهای گوشه در چهار سالگی تعویض می شوند0دندانهای دائمی بواسطه شكل پهنشان ازدندانهای شیری كه كوچكتر ومثلثی شكلند تمیز داده می شوند0از سن پنج سالگی به بعد سطح دندانهای مركزی وتا نه سالگی سطح تمام دندانهای پیشین سائیده می شوند0http://www.farsvet.ir/icarusplus/export/sites/default/fa/article/research/3/sen2.jpgشاخ: در حالت معمول طول شاخ در سه ماهگی حدود 2 سانتی متر است و سپس تا بلوغ جنسی در هر ماه یك سانت افزایش می یابد0 بنابراین شاخی به طول 8 سانتی متر مطابق با سنی حدود 9 ماه است0در گاوهای ماده رشد شاخ ها در مراحل پایانی آبستنی وشروع شیرواری آهسته می گردد و مجددا در طی پنج تا هشت ماه متعاقب از شیر گرفتن گوساله تسریع میشود این امر منجر به وجود آمدن یك حلقه شاخ می شود اولین حلقه شاخ بین 5/2 تا 3 سالگی ظاهر می شود0برای هر گوساله زائی یك حلقه جدید اضافه می شود0بنابراین سن یك گاو را می توان با اضافه كردن یك یا دو سال به تعداد حلقه های شاخ محاسبه نمود0
