بیماری های روده ای در سگ معمولاً 5 بار در دفعات مختلف ایجاد می شود . 80% بیماری ها مربوط به بیماری روده کوچک است و بیشتر در دوازدهه اتفاق می افتد . دوازدهه حجم وسیعی را در بر دارد که از پیلور شروع می شود تا قسمت حد وسط در راست بدن حدود cm25 وسعت دارد . دوازدهه به سمت پایین معده کشیدگی دارد، جایی که رباط های عضلانی وجود دارند . حد انتهایی آن به سمت چپ بدن کشیده شده است. کیسه صفرا هم چند سانتی متر باز می شود تا دهانۀ دوازدهه به خوبی دیده شود .



تهی روده بیشترین ساختار رودۀ کوچک را تشکیل می دهد این روده بلند تر ین بخش از روده کوچک به شمار می آید. تهی روده از قسمت چپ بدن جایی که دوازدهه عقب آن قرار دارد به قسمت راست کشیده می شود . روده کوچک دارای یک شاهرگ اصلی است که تقریباً 15 سانتی متر بلندی دارد . روده کوچک از قسمت چپ به کنارۀ قسمت راست کشیده شده است . ریشۀصفاق به تهی روده می چسبد و روده کوچک به قسمت تحتانی بدن و دیواره آن برخورد می کند . جراحت های صفاق در امتداد شاهرگ اصلی روده ی کوچک رخ می دهد.


§لایه های موجود در دیوارۀ غشاءمخاطی هستند . غشاء مخاطی از مهم ترین موانع برای جداسازی ترکیبات دارویی از حفره های دیگر است ، سلامت غشا مخاطی و خون موجود در دیوارۀ روده تامین کنندۀ ترشحات می باشند . قسمت های عضلانی به حرکت نیاز دارد غشاء سروزی برای ترمیم نواحی آسیب دیده بسیار حائز اهمیت است .

§نکته : به دلیل وجود غشاء مخاطی در لایه های روده شرایطی به وجود می آید که فعالیت مکانیکی را تقویت می کند .این شرایط زمانی مهم تلقی می شود که بخیه زدن روده به درستی صورت گیرد.
