اختلالات بالینی تنظیم حجم مایعات:هیپوناترمی و هیپرناترمی

غالبا غلظت سدیم پلاسما اولین سنجشی است که برای ارزیابی وضعیت مایعات بیمار به اسانی در دسترس پزشک است.معمولا اسمولاریته پلاسما را اندازه گیری نمی کننداما باتوجه به این که سدیم و انیون های همراه ان(عمدتا کلر)بیش از 90درصداز مواد حل شدنی مایع خارج سلولی را تشکیل می دهند در بسیاری از شرایط می توان غلظت سدیم پلاسما را معرف قابل قبولی از اسمولاریته پلاسما در نظر گرفت.اگر غلظت سدیم پلاسما کمتر از حد طبیعی(142mEq/L) باشد می گویند فرد دچارهیپوناترمی (hyponatremia) است.اگر غلظت سدیم پلاسما به بیشتراز حد طبیعی برسد فرد دچار هیپر ناترمی (hypernatermia) میباشد.
