اشنایی کامل با طوطی ماکائو

(http://www.taknaz.ir/news_cats_66.html)مشخصات کلی : پرنده ، همه*چیزخوار ، عمر اکثر این پرندگان در حیات وحش و طبیعت به 60 سال هم می*رسد. اندازه آنها بین 30 تا 100 سانتی‎متر و وزن*شان حدود 130 تا 1700 گرم است. بعضی از گونه*های ماکائوها بالهای بزرگی دارند. در این بین ماکائویی موسوم به hyacinth که بزرگترین طوطی محسوب می*شود بالهایی به طول 127 سانتی*متر دارد. این پرندگان از خانواده طوطی*سانان ، بسیار زیبا و دارای رنگ*هایی درخشنده و جذاب هستند. این رنگ*آمیزی زیبا ماکائوها را برای زندگی در جنگل*های آمریکای مرکزی و جنوبی در میان پوشش سبز و رنگی گلها و میوه*ها سازگار کرده است. منقار قدرتمند این پرندگان به راحتی آنها را در شکستن و پاره کردن میوه ها و دانه‎های مختلف قادر ساخته است. همچنین ماکائوها را باید از توانمندترین پرندگان در گرفتن شاخ و برگ*ها ، حرکت مابین و نشستن روی آنها دانست. ماکائوها پرندگانی باهوش و اجتماعی هستند که اغلب ، آنها را در دستجات 10 تا 30 تایی می*توان یافت. آنها با صداهای زیبای خود در داخل دستجات با یکدیگر ارتباط برقرار می*کنند. بعضی از ماکائوها توانایی تقلید صدای انسان را هم دارند. ماکائوها شب می*خوابند و صبح برای بدست آوردن غذا اعم از میوه ، دانه*های مختلف ، حشرات و حتی حلزون*ها گاهی مسیرهای طولانی را پرواز می‎کنند. بعضی از گونه*های آنها به دلیل شرایط جوی جنگل*های آمریکای جنوبی و مرکزی ذرات مرطوب خاک را هم می*بلعند که این امر به تسهیل هضم غذا کمک می*کند. در فصل فعالیت تولیدمثلی ، ماده*ها در آشیانه می*مانند و روی تخم می*خوابند و نرها به دنبال غذا برای آنان می‎روند. ماکائوها گونه*های مختلفی دارند (17 گونه) و متأسفانه اکثر آنها در معرض خطر انقراض قرار دارند. از آنجایی که این پرندگان بسیار جذاب و دوست داشتنی هستند عده‎ای برای فروش آنان به مردم با تله‎گذاری بصورت غیرقانونی این پرندگان را به دام می‎اندازند که این امر در کنار تخریب زیستگاه طبیعی این پرندگان از عوامل به خطر انداختن نسل ماکائوها به شمار می‎رود. از میان گونه*‎های متنوع ماکائوها ، نوع Hyacinth ، پیشانی(سر) قرمز و گردن آبی از دیگر گونه‎ها بیشتر در معرض خطر هستند. ظاهراً نسل برخی گونه‎ها نظیر Spix's macaw را هم متأسفانه باید منقرض شده دانست.
