پژوهشگران اعلام کردند نتایج تحقیقات انها نشان داد سم عقرب می تواند جایگزین مناسبی برای داروهای مسکّن از جمله مرفین ، به منظور کاهش درد در بیماران باشد.

تحقیقات دانشمندان در خصوص شیوه های نوین ابداع داروهای مسکّن جدید با منشا ترکیبات طبیعی، نشان داد مواد سمی پپتیدی موجود در سم نیش عقرب ، با کانالهای سدیم در دستگاه عصبی و ماهیچه ای واکنش نشان می دهد و برخی از این کانالهای سدیمی وظیفه انتقال علائم درد را در بدن افراد در اختیار دارند.

پژوهشگران می گویند بدن پستانداران 9 کانال مختلف سدیم دارد که از میان انها فقط یکی علائم درد را به مغز منتقل می کند.

به گزارش خبرگزاری یونایتدپرس دانشمندان هم اکنون سرگرم بررسی نحوه تعامل سم عقرب با کانالهای سدیمی در سطح مولکولی هستند و می کوشند از این طریق مسکّنهایی ابداع کنند که همانند ترکیبات طبیعی سم عقرب عمل می کنند.

هدف از این تحقیقات تولید داروهای مسکّن با منشا طبیعی و بدون استفاده از ترکیبات مصنوعی به منظور کاهش عوارض جانبی آنها در بیماران اعلام شده است.
