اولین تایگون ایران در باغ وحش مشهد به دنیا آمد. گزارشی از این خبر :

به دنبال یك پدیده نادر و استثنایی در ایران و جهان با جفت گیری طبیعی ببر نر و شیر ماده ۳ توله «شیر ببر»(تایگون) در مشهد متولد شدند.

۱۵ سال پیش نیز نخستین تایگون در آمریكا به صورت لقاح مصنوعی به دنیا آمد و پس از آن چینی ها موفق به این كار شدند.

در باغ وحش مشهد نیز ۷ بار مقاربت طبیعی بین شیر ماده و ببر نر و یا برعكس صورت گرفت تا این كه حامله شدن شیر ماده كاملاً به صورت طبیعی صورت گرفت و حاصل آن تولد ۳ توله تایگون شد.

مهدی رستمی، مدیر داخلی باغ وحش خراسان رضوی در این باره می گوید: این پدیده برای نخستین بار در دنیا به صورت طبیعی در مشهد به وجود آمد كه حاصل آن تولد ۳ توله تایگون در نهایت سلامت بود.

وی می افزاید: اصولاً در زندگی حیوانات وحشی، زاد و ولد حیوانات از نوع شیر و ببر بویژه در باغ وحش ها از طریق لقاح مصنوعی صورت می گیرد كه یا نتیجه نمی دهد یا این كه به صورت نادر به نتیجه می رسد.

رستمی در توصیف تایگون ها می گوید: رنگ زمینه بدن این تایگون ها قرمز است و در دم، دست و پاهایشان و كمی هم روی صورت و پیشانی آنها مانند ببر خطوط راه راه وجود دارد.

وی ادامه می دهد: تایگون ها به لحاظ جثه از توله شیر درشت تر هستند اما گاهی تفاوت هایی در واكنش های آنها وجود دارد، به طورمثال ببر عاشق زندگی در كنار آب است در صورتی كه شیر تمایلی به نزدیك شدن به آب ندارد اما تایگون ها برخی اوقات به بازی با آب تمایل نشان می دهند در حالی كه برخی اوقات به سمت آن هم نمی روند.

وی تصریح می كند: شیر و ببر در طبیعت به طور متوسط زیر ۱۷ سال و در اسارت، حدود ۲۵ سال عمر می كند اما با وجود این كه تایگون ها ۲ رگه و قوی تر هستند پیش بینی می شود كه عمرشان هم بیشتر باشد.

رستمی درباره تولید مثل دوباره تایگون ها توضیح می دهد: طبق بررسی های انجام شده نوع ماده تایگون قابل تكثیر و نر آن غیرقابل تكثیر است. تایگون ها از سن ۳ سالگی قابلیت بارور شدن دارند و امیدواریم كه بتوانیم باز هم به صورت طبیعی تعداد تایگون ها را افزایش دهیم.

وی درباره سایر موجودات نادری كه در باغ وحش مشهد نگهداری می شوند، می گوید: ببر بنگال، ببر اندونزی، اوریكس سفید، قوچ و میش آئوراد، تمساح، لاما (شبیه شتر)، پلنگ آفریقا، سیاه گوش (نوعی گربه نادر) از جمله حیواناتی هستند كه منحصراً در این مجموعه نگهداری می شوند.
